West Hawai'i County Band in Concert!
The West Hawai’i County Band, a 20+ piece concert band, announces the next free concert on Saturday, October 26. You read that right, this concert will be on Saturday at noon, not on a Friday. Not only that, but the concert will be at a new location: in the gazebo at the West Hawai’i Civic Center at 74-5044 Ane Keohokalole Highway, just above the Honokohau Small Boat Harbor. Since we’re starting at lunchtime, you may want to bring along your picnic basket, a blanket or maybe a beach chair for an hour of music on the lawn!
It’s that spooky time of year so for this concert the West Hawai’i County Band will feature thrilling and chilling music. The appropriately named tunes for the Hallowe’en season include “Band-O-Ween, Pieces Macabre,” “Grim Grinning Ghosts” from Disney’s The Haunted Mansion, and “Music for a Darkened Theatre” from the film scores of Danny Elfman, including “The Nightmare before Christmas, Edward Scissorhands and Beetlejuice. And even Sousa get’s into the spooky holiday spirit as we feature “The Golden Star,” a funeral march from World War I.
Come and shiver to live band music performed by musicians from all walks of life who haunt you right here in your own community.
The artistic director, and head ghoul, of the West Hawai’i County Band is Bernaldo Evangalista.
This concert series is brought to you in part by the County of Hawai’i Parks and Recreation Department and the West Hawai’i County Band Friends.
