Kumu Hula Iwalani Kalima with Hula Hālau O Kou Lima NaniʻE

Typically held on the 3rd (or sometimes 2nd) Saturday of each month, hula hālau from across Hawaiʻi  perform in a one-of-a-kind outdoor setting at the kahua hula (platform) in the Hawai`i Volcanoes National Park.

Ali'i will be closed down and booths put up along the street. Crafts, Food to go, Packaged foods, music etc will all be going on. This is a free event.

A Walk into the Past

Walk back to 1912, and meet the founder of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, Dr. Thomas A. Jaggar, at the edge of Kīlauea Volcano.
Dressed in period costume, Ka‘ū actor-director Dick Hershberger brings the renowned geologist to life.
At 10 a.m., 12 noon and 2 p.m. Each performance is about an hour.

Portuguese Stone Oven Baking

The Kona Historical Society practices the traditional art of baking Portuguese bread in a large wood-fired forno, come and watch as staff and people from the community get together to talk story, roll dough, and bake it.
